We got in a lot of reading time. 5 hours on the train from Mayrhofen to Zurich. I'm not sure if i've said this already but i'm really liking the train travel. Sitting back in our comfy chairs with triple the leg space you get on a plane and much better food! It was nice to stare out of the window and tune out to the sound of Angus and Julia Stone.
We arrived in Zurich around 2:30pm and spent an hour working out the tram tickets to get to our hotel. It's so much fun when nobody wants to or knows how to speak English...
Zurich was as we'd expected.. Expensive and the people not very friendly, but we were only there for one night so it wasn't too bad.
I don't think I mentioned this before, but dogs are a big thing in Europe. There are people walking with dogs everywhere! All different kinds.. The short haired dogs freezing in the snow, the fluffy dogs bounding in it. A lot of them have cute little jackets on and their owners take them everywhere!Busses, trains, womens clothing stores, even restaurants! On our last day in Mayrhofen we went to a cafe/restaurant for lunch and the waitress carried Zelda's drink in one and a doggy bowl of water in the other and put it down under the table where the dog was sitting... This was inside.... Then as we were leaving our hotel rooms in Zurich.. This huge short haired pointer pup came strolling out of a room with his owners. They went downstairs to the lobby where he barked at a Jack Russel that was checking in, then they walked into the hotel restaurant where i'm sure the lucky dog enjoyed a $35 steak... It was a pretty flash restaurant too, we were all amazed. We were talking to the owners and they said that everywhere is very dog friendly there. No kidding!
We went out for dinner at an Italian restaurant. No English of course so we all tried our best at ordering something when we had no idea what the menu said. Zelda tried for a pasta and ended up getting a pizza with prawns... None of us eat seafood and Zelda cant even take the smell hahaha.
Finished off the night with our complementary chocolates which were the best chocolate ever!

Yeah they love dogs in Europe! Funniest thing we saw was a huge mastiff in a cafe in Paris that was covered in water and sand, so when it left with its owner the waiter had to clean up a big messy puddle heh
A tip for Italian restaurants is everything under the "Poisson" part of the menu is seafood! And Entrée are the non-seafood (usually!) main. Italy loves seafood!
Ahh yes, Switzerland is a beautiful country though Zürich can get a bit boring after having seen the sights. Did they have the big Swarovski Christmas tree setup in Zürich Hauptbahnhof when you arrived? That's always quite impressive. I find Europe's love for dogs a bit strange, especially allowing them inside restaurants. I hope you sampled some fine Swiss cuisine like cheese fondue or grabbed a bratwurst from one of the many street vendors... or was the hunger diminished by all the Swiss chocolate? :)
Thanks for the tip Brett will keep an eye out next time. And Brian... Of course our appetites were spoiled by chocolate but oh so worth it!
We were only in Switzerland for the night so we didn't have a look around at the foods.... Sorry to dissapoint.
